1 Conifer Plants
Fir trees (Abies) are a genus of 48–55 species of evergreen conifers closely related to cedars found in mountainous regions throughout North and Central America, Europe, Asia, and North Africa.
Firs can be distinguished from other conifers by
• needle-like leaves attached to the twig by a small suction cup like base
• erect, cylindrical cones that disintegrate when mature and release winged seeds
